New figures released showing number of vaccines distributed in Milton Keynes and Bedfordshire

New data shows that a total of 52,237 doses of vaccine have been delivered to residents living in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.

Of these, 47,551 were first doses and 4,686 were second doses of the vaccine.

The health region has a population of around 1 million people, meaning around 5% of residents living in our area have been given at least a first dose.

Of the first doses given, 25,259 of the people were under the age of 80 whilst 22,292 were aged 80 or over.

Milton Keynes Hospital have already confirmed they have given 10,000 people their first dose of the vaccine.

And additional vaccination sites are up and running across the city as well, with two more opening last weekend.

Meanwhile, there were delays in launching the vaccination programme in Bedford initially, with no vaccines distributed at all in the town during December.

The town now has a number of centres which have been set up in recent weeks.

Updated figures will now be released by NHS England on a weekly basis.
