New development of 170 homes in Milton Keynes set for approval

A council owned development company wants to increase the number of houses it can build on a Milton Keynes site.

Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP), which “promotes the development of its land assets to deliver economic and social value”, has applied to put 171 new homes on land off Timbold Drive, in Kents Hill Park.

The 6.9 hectare site, and a piece of land earmarked for a new private hospital, close to Groveway, had been given permission for 148 homes in 2018.

But next week’s meeting of the council’s development control committee will be told that the private hospital partners have pulled out, and a new plan has been lodged without the hospital.

Council officers have recommended elected councillors to approve the plan for the grassland site at their meeting on fireworks night, Thursday, November 5.

Christopher Walton, a senior planning officer at the council said: “It is understood that this current application, which omits the hospital, has been submitted as a consequence of Spire Healthcare PLC, the named operator of the permitted hospital, not taking the project forward.”

MKDP has also agreed to contribute to traffic calming measures to lessen the impact of an increase in traffic at to improve the junction of Groveway and Timbold Drive.

In total MKDP could be set to pay the council contributions totalling £3.754 million.

Residents in nearby homes in Kents Hill have objected saying they haven’t been properly consulted.

Mr Walton says: “Whilst the comments from local residents regarding public consultation are noted, the applicant has provided evidence that there was pre-application consultation on the proposed scheme.

“This evidence includes a flyer advertising a consultation process and subsequent responses received from members of the public regarding the proposals.

“Although it is appreciated that the quality and thoroughness of the consultation is subjective, the evidence provided is deemed sufficient to address this issue.”

He concludes: “The application proposes the residential development of a site that is allocated for housing in Plan:MK.”
