New figures have revealed that 38 potholes are being filled each day by Milton Keynes City Council.

The Labour and Lib Dem coalition that runs Milton Keynes City Council, the Progressive Alliance, has today announced that 5,899 potholes have been filled since the start of the Council year, from April – August 2022.

As part of the Council Plan, councillors have committed to filling in 15,000 potholes in 22/23.

Councillor Paul Trendall, Lib Dem Progressive Alliance Cabinet Member for Highways & Landscaping, said: “I am delighted that our teams have been filling the equivalent of 38 potholes per day so far this year, as our teams are out all year round working hard to reduce the impact on residents and these figures clearly show Labour and Lib Dem councillors are continually making improvements for the people of Milton Keynes.

“Potholes are inevitable especially throughout the winter months, and people use roads and redways every day so that’s why we are investing £4m in long-term improvements for roads, redways and paths across the city this year.”

Councillor Shanika Mahendran, Labour Councillor for Loughton & Shenley Ward, added: “Potholes are always a popular topic of conversation for residents in Loughton & Shenley, so I’m pleased that the Progressive Alliance has listened to residents and continues to make improvements to roads and pathways a priority. As a growing city, it is more important now than ever that the highways are maintained for residents and visitors to Milton Keynes.”

What is the pothole repair criteria?

Milton Keynes City Council state that all potholes that are reported are investigated with teams completing routine safety inspections of the city’s highways.

Potholes can be reported to the City Council by using the Report It section or call 01908 252353.

Any pothole over 4cm deep will be investigated.

If there are several in one section of road, even under 4cm, a ‘plane and patch’ repair may be carried out as it is more efficient covering a larger area than individual pothole repairs.
