Much-loved festive street display in Milton Keynes not taking place this winter due to cost of living crisis

A popular Christmassy street in Milton Keynes has announced it will not be providing its display this year due to the 'current energy climate and general cost of living increases'.

Boxberry Gardens, in Walnut Tree, is known widely for its fantastic displays and festive spirit.

Since the pandemic, the street has provided people in Milton Keynes with a huge Christmas display in aid of charity.

A resident took to social media last night (18/10) to announce that the display will not be taking place this winter due to the cost of living crisis and rising energy bills.

"Thank you to all of our supporters over the past couple of years, we have made a big difference to a lot of people with your help.

"It is with a heavy heart that after much consideration and given the current energy climate and general cost of living increases that sadly the residents of Boxberry Gardens are unable to provide a charity display this year."

The residents of the street say that the decision "has not come easy" and the street hopes that residents continue to 'find their own personal ways to support those in need'.

"While some homes may be decorated a little we must stress that they are NOT for a public display and only for personal choice," the spokesperson said.

"Thank you again for the support. All the best for the coming months and future."

Residents have been taking to the social media comments to support the decision of the street. One said: "All good things always come to an end. You did such an amazing thing for the winter night shelter, and you should all be very proud of what you did for that, and for the joy you bought your community."

Another said: "Everyone will understand. Just what a shame that this has had to happen. Thanks for sharing it with us. We loved coming year after year."

The street has said this is not the end of Boxberry Gardens lights.
