MP for Milton Keynes North backs Boris Johnson to return as Prime Minister

The MP for Milton Keynes North has confirmed that he is backing Boris Johnson in the leadership race.

Ben Everitt MP has today confirmed he is backing Boris Johnson in the latest leadership contest following the resignation of Liz Truss.

The MP for Milton Keynes North, who has served as member of parliament for Milton Keynes since 2019, confirmed his support for the former Prime Minister on Twitter, stating that we need 'experience and resilience'.

He said: "We need experience and resilience. In the national interest I am backing Boris Johnson."

Conservative MPs are just days away from a leadership election following the resignation of Liz Truss after just 44 days in her position.

In a statement read outside Downing Street, Ms Truss said: "I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability."

"Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills."

Ms Truss added that she was elected "with a mandate to change this", saying: "We delivered on energy bills."

She says she recognises she "cannot deliver the mandate" on which she was elected and that there will be a leadership election "to be completed within the next week."

Now, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was forced to leave office after over 60 ministers resigned in early July, has said he "up for it" when asked if he will be running again.

Boris is currently one of three frontrunners in the race, with Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt.

To have a chance at taking office again, he will need the backing of 100 Tory MPs.
