Nine new 20mph schemes are being drawn up to slow down traffic across residential areas in Milton Keynes.
A senior councillor has used her delegated powers to launch public consultation on the proposals which focus on less expensive schemes in older parts of MK where drivers have been slower anyway.
Many of the newer estates are already covered by 20mph limits and Cllr Emily Darlington (Lab, Bletchley East), said it would mean that “older neighbourhoods would also benefit from a lower speed limit.”
Although proposals had been required to show local support to be included in the programme, the council has dropped that because of covid.
But Cllr Darlington, speaking at a delegated decisions meeting yesterday (Tuesday) said the public would be able to have their say during a statutory consultation.
The budget for the schemes is estimated at £70,000, including the cost of signs and lines on the road.
The schemes being advanced include roads in Grange Farm,
Walton Grange, Monkston, and Monkston Park.
Individual roads included are:
Chadds Lane and Waterside, in Peartree Bridge.
Maltings Field, New Road/Prospect Road, Bens Close and School Lane Castlethorpe.
Avon Grove, West Bletchley, Abbotsbury, in Westcroft and Russell Street Woburn Sands.
Another three applications – for Abbey Way, Bradville; Whaddon Way, Bletchley and Boyce Crescent, Old Farm Park, were put back for at least a year because they would cost more to implement.
