MK Dons sign Saints striker on loan

Robbie Neilson makes his third signing in a week.

Robbie Neilson has further strengthened his attacking options with the signing of promising striker Ryan Seager from Southampton.

The 21-year-old joins on a season-long loan deal from the Premier League club, making it three new recruits in the space of seven days for the Dons following the arrivals of Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Gboly Ariyibi.

Seager’s goalscoring pedigree speaks for itself, having found the net 28 times in 57 appearances for Southampton in Premier League 2 including four in just nine outings last season after recovering from injury.

He told mkdons.com: “I’m really happy to be here and I’m excited by the challenge ahead. I’ve heard good things about MK Dons and I just can’t wait to get started.”

Neilson told mkdons.com: “We’re really pleased to get him. He is a top prospect at Southampton, who are renowned for their great work with developing players.

“I expect him to fit in well and score goals.”

This will be Seager’s second loan spell after a short stint with Crewe Alexandra at the start of 2016, during which time he scored his first professional goal against Rochdale.

Preceding that, in 2014/15, his impressive performances for the Saints’ youth sides were rewarded with a first-team debut against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

A week later, he made his Premier League debut against Swansea City.
