Minor flooding as Milton Keynes river overflows due to heavy rainfall

The River Great Ouse, and its tributary the River Ouzel, have caused some minor floods to emerge in low lying areas throughout Milton Keynes.

The government have put in place a flood warning, which read: “River levels remain high at the Bletchley and Newport Pagnell river gauges as a result of the recent rainfall.

“Consequently, the risk of flooding of property, roads and farmland remains throughout the day today, Saturday 30 January.

“We expect flooding to affect Caldecote Lane, Willen Road, River Side, Toll House, Woad Farm, Sherington Road and Gallards Farm in Newport Pagnell as well as Mill Road, Watling Street and Belvedere Lane in Bletchley.

“Further rainfall is forecast today, and we expect that river levels will begin to rise again as a result of this.

“Our incident response staff are checking defences and we are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid contact with flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers.”
