Milton Keynes woman walks a mile a day to raise money for mental health charity

Throughout the month of January, local resident Joanne McClaren is walking a mile everyday to raise funds for Mind BLMK.

Joanne McClaren is the co-founder of MK Charities and over the years has worked tirelessly to support local charities and businesses within the community.

Having previously struggled with her mental health, she was inspired to start the campaign after being helped by Mind BLMK. She said: “My mental health has always been a challenge for me. I've battled with anxiety and depression over the years and was incredibly poorly with postnatal depression after having our son 6 years ago.

“Over the years I've found coping mechanisms and have always been open about my struggles. I want to raise much-needed awareness and funds to support others. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should ever feel alone or unable to talk about how they are feeling.”

She notes that this past year has been an especially tough time for us all, and local charities need all the support they can get, as she explained: “2020 has been so difficult for so many and Mind BLMK are here to support the community in our local area. I want to raise vital funds to help support those that need help in these difficult times and beyond. Please help me by donating what you can or by sharing my page or social media posts.

“Together we can make a difference.”

The fundraiser is aiming to raise £500 by the end of the month, at the time of writing (27/01) it sits at £436.
