Milton Keynes is set to receive £66,000 of funding as part of government plans to deliver more than 500 new Changing Places toilets across the country.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is making up to £30 million available to local authorities to boost the provision of Changing Places toilets.

Funding is available over three years, from 2021/22 - 2023/24.

Changing Place Toilets are different to disabled toilets. They often have extra space, a larger sink and/or shower and equipment such as a bench or hoist.

The government programme is being delivered in partnership with the charity Muscular Dystrophy UK, co-chairs of the Changing Places Consortium, who will support local authorities in their delivery with technical advice and training.

Ben Everitt MP commented: “I’m absolutely delighted the Conservative Government is providing extra funding for Changing Places toilets.

“On a recent visit to MK Snap I heard just how important the addition of a Changing Places toilet had been to one of their learners, and I’ve also previously spoken to MK Gallery about the impact theirs has had on the local community so I'm really pleased the Government is ensuring we'll be adding to those."

Iain Stewart MP said: “The Changing Places Toilets are an important facility for local people who cannot use standard access toilets and I am glad that this fund will help increase the number of these facilities in Milton Keynes..

Ministerial Disability Champion Eddie Hughes MP added: “It goes without saying that people with severe disabilities, their families and carers should be able to go shopping, plan a day out or travel without needing to worry about whether they will have access to suitable toilet facilities.

“I am delighted that our funding today will help provide over 500 new Changing Places Toilets in England, enabling people to enjoy everything their local area has to offer with dignity and freedom.”
