Milton Keynes teenager's photo of Willen Lake is shortlisted for national RSPCA award

    A local teenager's photograph of Willen Lake has been shortlisted in RSPCA's 'People's choice' online photo competition.

    Fourteen animal snaps taken by youngsters aged from 10 to 18 have been shortlisted for the animal charity’s competition and the winner will be decided by votes cast online by members of the public.  

    Images include a cat asking for a hug, a close up of an ant, a collie at sunset and a gaggle of geese walking along a road.

    Samuel Atkins, 15, from Milton Keynes is amongst the finalists up for the People's Choice award after submitting a photograph of Willen Lake titled "Willen Lake after storm". The photograph captures a heron in front of a stunning post-sunset sky at Willen Lake.

    The shortlisted photographers come from across the country with other finalists coming from: Slough (Berkshire), Penrith (Cumbria), Basildon (Essex), Chelsea & Croydon (London), Dereham (Norfolk), Nottingham (Nottinghamshire), Wantage (Oxfordshire), Telford (Shropshire), Rotherham (South Yorkshire), Sutton Coldfield & Wolverhampton (West Midlands), and Littlehampton (West Sussex). 

    In December 2020, the winners of the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2020 were announced following the official judging by a panel of photographic experts including RSPCA Vice President Chris Packham and industry professionals. 

    As part two of the competition, the public are able to vote for the Peoples Choice winner over a range of categories. Voting will be open for one week only beginning today and will close next Tuesday 16th March at 12.30pm. The winner is then due to be announced on the RSPCA’s Facebook page shortly after on Wednesday 17th March.     The winner of the RSPCA People’s Choice competition will receive £100 worth of vouchers from Amazon, an RSPCA Young Photographer Awards trophy and a certificate.

    Entries for the RSPCA Young Photographer Awards 2021 will open on 4th May 2021.
