Milton Keynes residents reminded to only call 999 in an emergency after an increase in calls

Thames Valley Police is asking the public to help during the summer months after an increase in calls to 999 services.

Nationally, as well as in the Thames Valley, forces have been experiencing an increase of calls to 999.

This is down to a general increase of calls seen at this time of year and other factors such as the hot weather.

TVP are asking the public to therefore think about whether the call they are making is a genuine emergency that needs an immediate police response.

In a statement on their website, Thames Valley Police said: "999 should only be used in emergency situations; when a life is in danger or a crime is happening right now. To speak to the police about anything else, you should call 101 or you can contact us online."

Please still call 999 if you are in immediate danger.
