Milton Keynes primary school closes site for at least a week as boiler system breaks down

A break down of the boiler system at a Milton Keynes primary school means it is unable to accommodate children on site this week.

Caroline Haslett Primary School in Shenley Lodge informed parents yesterday of the issue.

In a letter to parents, Headteacher Paul Quinton said: "I returned to school to discover that the boiler system has broken down. The timing and age of the parts needed (if it can be fixed at all) means there is no easy solution."

"I have explored various options including, relocating our provision for the children of critical workers to neighbouring schools and sourcing a selection of electric heaters, but as there will be no hot water and the classrooms need to have windows and doors open to increase ventilation, I have made the decision that we will be unable to accommodate any children (including from those families Mrs Ottaway spoke to on Thursday) on site for at least one week."

"I will hopefully be in a position to reevaluate the situation as progress is made."

"I know this will be frustrating for many of you, but I have made this decision with the health and safety of the children being my main priority."

Primary schools in Milton Keynes were already planning to operate remotely until 18th January, however they were expected to open this week for vulnerable children and those with key worker parents.
