Milton Keynes MP goes on expenses paid skiing trip in Swiss Alps for work

Guido Fawkes, a national whistleblowing website, has revealed that MPs were invited along for an annual Parliamentary skiing trip.

The Milton Keynes North MP, Ben Everitt, is one of the seven named by the website to have joined the visit to the Swiss Alps.

Ben Everitt MP told MKFM that the visit was part of an annual trip with the Swiss Government to take part in a series of meetings with MPs, officials and embassy staff and was sponsored by the Swiss at 'no cost' to UK taxpayers.

Ben Everitt MP received flights, accommodation, a dinner, ski instructor and ski pass.

"It's an annual trip with the Swiss Government but this was my first time to be invited," the MP told MKFM.

"I had a series of meetings with Swiss MPs, officials and embassy staff from Switzerland and the UK, including the Swiss ambassador.

"There were multiple engagements over the week. We covered Ukraine - at meetings and a roundtable, foreign policy, the EU and healthcare. The healthcare sessions were particularly interesting, including a hospital visit and briefing on the Swiss healthcare model. I also had meetings about housing with my Housing APPG chairman hat on."

Davos, the ski resort which the MPs made a visit to, hosts the World Economic Forum.

"The skiing was sponsored by the Swiss at no cost to the UK taxpayer. In fact none of this trip cost the UK taxpayer a penny. The Swiss MPs were obviously much better at skiing than us, but we built some good relationships, which is particularly important, especially with the ongoing situation in Ukraine and Switzerland's historic policy of neutrality.

"Working together with international colleagues is a key part of this job and I was pleased to be invited on this trip."

Public records show that the MP last year received gifted tickets to the Brit Awards and hospitality tickets to the Rugby.
