Milton Keynes MP addresses the PPE situation within the public sector

Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, has discussed how the Government is ensuring the public sector has sufficient PPE.

In the past, local organisations had claimed that they did not have enough personal protective equipment (PPE). Ben Everitt MP had addressed these claims, saying providing PPE was a "logistical challenge" due to extreme demand.

Today (14/4), Ben Everitt MP spoke to MKFM about the current situation regarding PPE, and specifically what the situation is like at Milton Keynes Hospital.

“They seem to have enough [PPE]," said Ben. "We continue to make sure that the supply is going and the deliveries are complete and on time. It’s a huge national effort; we’re getting through PPE at a phenomenal rate, and it’s a rate that we wouldn’t have expected to just a few months ago."

There are four routes our local public services can get their PPE through:

    1. Local suppliers
    2. National suppliers
    3. Local resilience forums
    4. National military-led supply change for emergencies

"Those supply lines are in place," Ben added. "There are occasional glitches with that, but we are working to get the right kit to the front line staff to support them in their jobs."

One of the issues regarding PPE is that it is often single-use, meaning that the demand is rapidly increasing.

Ben continued: “The three-step plan is now to address the use of the kit, the supply of it, and the delivery to where it needs to be. It’s not just hospitals, it’s care homes and so on, that are getting through this [PPE] at a real rate."
