Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been sentenced for one count of attempted burglary in Milton Keynes.
Jason Smith, aged 46, of Garraways, Coffee Hall, pleaded guilty to the offence at Aylesbury Crown Court on Thursday 7 July.
He was sentenced at the same hearing to 12 months’ imprisonment.
On 9 May this year, Smith attempted to gain access to a property in Tandra, Beanhill, using a stick that he had found outside the property.
The victim woke up to find the stick inside the property, recognising it as having previously been outside. On checking doorbell footage they saw Smith attempting to gain access.
Smith was arrested and charged the following day on 10 May.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Yvette Wray, based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “Attempted burglary is a serious offence which not only affects the community but is an intrusive crime to someone’s life.
“I am pleased that Smith has been successfully been brought to justice.
“Within four hours of the suspect being arrested, he had been charged and remanded. This goes to show that Milton Keynes will not tolerate these sorts of crimes.”
