Milton Keynes knitters invited to help neighbouring hospital with 'connected hearts' initiative for lost loved ones

Knitters in Milton Keynes are being invited to take part in the 'connected hearts' initiative which will support family members following the loss of a loved one.

This scheme sees volunteers knit two matching hearts for hospitals which are then given out following the death of a patient. One heart is placed in the hand of the deceased, while the other is for their relative(s) to keep.

Northampton General Hospital is taking part in the initiative and is seeking knitters to provide the hearts.

Following the success of MKFM's appeal for Milton Keynes University Hospital, where thousands of hats were knitted for new-borns, we have decided to support our neighbouring hospital.

If you are able to help, the hearts need to be:

    • Able to be washed at 60c

    • Washed at 60c prior to being sent in

    • Maximum 2inches in size (the hospital has little bags for them to go in)

    • The hearts need to be matching so the patient has 1 and the family member has the other

The hearts can then be sent directly to:
