Milton Keynes Hospital Charity launches Cardiology Appeal

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity has launched a new appeal for the MKUH cardiology department, raising funds to transform its waiting area.

The launch took place last week in the heart of MK, where its new appeal video – ‘the Wait’ – was screened in the Leisure Quarter to supporters and hospital staff.

The appeal is set to benefit people from in and around Milton Keynes using the cardiology service each year. This could be for emergency testing and treatment or long-term care resulting in frequent visits to the department.

Vanessa Holmes from Milton Keynes Hospital Charity says: “Having a space where a patient feels more comfortable waiting for treatments or updates is extremely important.

“Our Cardiology appeal is raising £23,000 to completely transform the waiting area – we’ve had images and surveys that show what it could look like with charitable support and the difference is huge.

“The appeal will benefit almost 50,000 people. That said, with the effects of Covid-19, the cardiology team are anticipating a huge 50% increase in patients, if not more, over the next two to three years. These are unprecedented times and the need for a comfortable, inviting waiting area is more important than ever.”

Milton Keynes Hospital Charity is working with the cardiology team to provide a space that is bright, welcoming and offers distractions, even if for a moment. The transformation will make the experience of patients and their loved ones a little easier.

Of the £23,000 target, £18,600 has been raised.

To support the new appeal, people can make a donation or take on a challenge. Information can be found by clicking here.
