Coronavirus infection rate in Milton Keynes continues to rise during lockdown

Data shows that the coronavirus infection rate in Milton Keynes is continuing to rise.

The latest number of weekly infections per 100,000 people is 174, which is considerably higher than Tuesday's figure of 151. And the figure has been increasing week on week.

This comes as Milton Keynes has seen 144 positive cases in just 48 hours.

Cllr Pete Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes Council, has reminded residents that there is often a "lag" between when people are infected, and when they receive a positive result.

This means that the impact of the second lockdown is only just slowly coming through the system, says Cllr Marland, and that we currently "don't yet know how effective it has been."

And that is why Milton Keynes Council is stressing that the choices people make today will affect the infection rate for weeks to come.

They say we are at a "critical" stage of the lockdown meaning that residents' choices will determine what restrictions are in place in Milton Keynes from 2nd December.

It is the council's "goal" to get the cases below 100 before the national lockdown ends.

To achieve this, residents must continue to follow lockdown rules and coronavirus prevention measures.
