Milton Keynes Council appeal for organisations to support their 'Summer of Play' for local children

Throughout the month of August, Milton Keynes Council is hosting free activities and food for young people and their families, but they need local organisations help.

The Council has been awarded grant funding, by the Department for Education (DfE), to coordinate free activities and food, for children in receipt of benefit-related free school meals (FSM) during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays in 2021.

The Council hope that by doing this that all children and young people across Milton Keynes, will be supported to:

    • Eat more healthily over the school holidays

    • Be more active during the school holidays

    • Take part in engaging and enriching activities

    • Be safe and not to be socially isolated

    • Have greater knowledge of health and nutrition

    • Be more engaged with school and other local services

Explaining the help they require to make this possible, a spokesperson for Milton Keynes Council said: "We are keen to work with organisations across Milton Keynes, and we are inviting interested organisations to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to deliver activity and food events from 2-28 August 2021.

"Whilst events are open to all children, we are keen to ensure that provision is targeted in areas where there is a higher proportion of children who are eligible and accessing free school meals. We would encourage organisations to view the FSM map (PDF, 2.5MB) and consider the detail in any event proposals

"We also encourage organisations to consider the HAF FAQs which have been compiled to support you with any queries, along with the DfE guidance on the GOV.UK website. Please note that due to the DfE grant funding arrangements it is important that any events meet the requirements set out in their guidance.

"Decisions regarding events for Summer 2021 will be made late June. If your organisation is successful you will be contacted and be expected to provide event details by the 30 July 2021.

"Details that you will need to provide will include the event dates, event times, venues and locations of events, number of available spaces and booking contact details.

"Once you are ready to make an Expression of Interest, please complete the EOI Form."

Please note that the deadline for applications is midnight on 20 June 2021, any application received after this date will not be considered for Summer 2021.

If you have any questions regarding the summer programme, you can email HAF@milton-keynes.gov.uk or for more information, please click here.
