Milton Keynes Citizen saved from closure following purchase by JPI Media

    The Milton Keynes Citizen along with other newspapers are to be saved after they were purchased by a new company caled JPI Media.

    MKFM reported that Johnston Press, the previous owner of the Milton Keynes Citizen, was preparing to enter administration on Friday night.

    All of the company newspaper titles including the Milton Keynes paper as well as the i and Scotsman were transferred to the new JPI Media company over the weekend.

    The new owners are putting £35m into the group and have also agreed to cut the level of senior secured debt by £135m to £85m, with extended debt maturity to December 2023.

    Johnston Press's former CEO will become CEO of the new JPI Media company and told employees that the deal "safeguards your newspaper and website, continues the employment of all our staff and helps us to have a more stable and secure future".
