Milton Keynes care home unveils new 'beach hut' to allow residents and families to safely meet

Kents Hill Care Home has recently unveiled the brand new Beach Hut, which is an innovative and safe way for residents to see their families.

Across the country, people in care homes went weeks, even months, without properly seeing their families back during the first lockdown. And this time around, Kents Hill Care Home wanted to allow residents to be able to see their families while also keeping safe.

This is how the concept of the simple yet effective concept of the Kents Hill Beach Hut came about, with the idea first being discussed when the Government released its guidelines on visitation.

During the warm summer months, residents were able to sit in the gardens or at their window and have socially-distanced visits from family members. But now that the country is making its way into the winter, outside visits are no longer feasible.

Kents Hill Care Home decided to create the Beach Hut so that residents and families can gather in a warm and dry space, and be separated by Perspex screens to ensure everybody's safety.

There is an intercom for people who are hard of hearing, and staff are on hand to provide support if need-be.

Anu Godagama, Care Manager, said: "We are doing what we do best; caring for residents and their relatives during a global pandemic.  We are keeping our companies values at the forefront; being a home filled with people passionate about care and whom put the happiness and well-being of residents at the heart of everything they do."

Although the Kents Hill Beach Hut has only officially been open for a couple of weeks, it has already been greatly received by many relatives who can now see their loved ones in a safe manner. One visitor said: "It brings humour and joy to a difficult situation".
