Thames Valley Police is now appealing for witnesses following the assault in Coffee Hall.
At around 12.45pm on Wednesday 15 July, the victim, a man in his twenties, was walking with two others in Daniels Welch, Coffee Hall when they were approached by a group of between eight and 12 men wearing face coverings and armed with weapons, thought to be machetes or swords.
Four of the men chased the victim towards Robins Hill where he was assaulted, resulting in lacerations to the top of his head and legs. His injuries required hospital treatment at the Milton Keynes University Hospital where he has since been discharged.
The offenders are all described as young black men, wearing dark clothing and face coverings.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Alex Kiljan, based at Milton Keynes police station said: “I am appealing for anyone who has any information relating to this incident to come forward.
