Major expansion project underway at local Milton Keynes primary school

The development is set to take the number of places available at Hanslope Primary School from 270 to 480.

With building and development work underway, is expected that the extension project will be completed in March 2022. The expansion will enable the school to meet projected local demand.

The expanded school will include 12 new classrooms along with associated group rooms, office space and facilities. The development will also feature an all-weather sports pitch and an increased parking area.

Councillor Zoe Nolan, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said: "Hanslope Primary is a very popular school in a fast-growing area of Milton Keynes.

"These new facilities are good news for both staff and pupils and will enable more families to access this great school. We will continue to focus on creating quality school places to support current and future generations of children across Milton Keynes."

Since 2015, five new schools and 18 school expansion projects have been delivered to support an increase of 4,112 pupils. By 2026, it is expected that the population of Milton Keynes will have risen by 40,000 to almost 300,000. Milton Keynes Council is commitng to ensuring that there is a good school place ready for every child.

Design and construction of the Hanslope Primary expansion is being carried out by GSSArchitecture and RG Carter Ltd. In line with the council's vision for future sustainability, the new building will be extremely well insulated and heated by air source heat pumps rather than carbon fuels.

Ken Woodhall, Commercial Manager at R G Carter said: "We are proud to mark the start of this much-needed teaching facility for the local community.

"We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Milton Keynes Council and Hanslope Primary School and providing the students and staff with a building that will benefit future generations."

The school is a very popular choice for parents in the area and is judged by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’.
