Local school to provide facilities for NHS baby immunisation programme

Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes is opening up its community hall to help the NHS administer the immunisation programme for babies.

This is to try and help to ease the pressure on GP surgeries and Milton Keynes Hospital during the coronavirus pandemic.

The weekly sessions, which will start tomorrow (22/4), will help to ensure that NHS staff can vaccinate infants against diseases, such as measles, rubella, tetanus and meningitis, in a suitably equipped setting.

Delighted to be able to assist the NHS, Oakgrove School Headteacher Ian Tett, said: “I am so pleased that we can offer a safe and secure environment, so that nursing staff can carry out their invaluable work of delivering immunisations to children in the local community. The team will run the sessions every Wednesday from Oakgrove School for the foreseeable future.”

NHS Immunisation and Clinical Delivery Manager, Rebecca Twist, added: “All NHS staff are adapting to changes in their working practices and surroundings and it is so important that we can work in a space where social distancing can be observed.

“The Immunisation and Vaccination team would like to thank Oakgrove School for providing suitable accommodation at this challenging time for medical centres.”
