Local school receives boost from Amazon following vandalism

Husborne Crawley Lower School has received a £1,000 donation from the Amazon Milton Keynes team following a recent break-in and vandalism of their playground equipment.

The donation was made after the Amazon fulfilment centre received a letter from a young pupil at the school, Summer aged 9, asking for help and has been used to purchase new playground equipment.

The Bedford-based primary school caters for local children aged 4-9 and has been a staple in the community since it was founded over 150 years ago.

Commenting on the donation, Scott Wharton, General Manager at Amazon Milton Keynes fulfilment centre, says, “We were shocked to hear what happened at the school just around the corner from us and knew that we had to help after receiving the heart-felt letter from Summer, a pupil at the school. Husborne Crawley Lower School plays such an important role in community, which is why we wanted to extend our support and show that they have the business community behind them. We hope that the donation will bring a smile back to the young people’s faces.”

Mrs Willans, the Headteacher of Husborne Crawley Lower School, adds, “On behalf of the school, teachers, pupils and their families, we would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Amazon in Milton Keynes for their generous donation. The recent break in at the school has been difficult for everyone, especially the children who love spending time outside in the playground. The support from the community has been so appreciated and it warms our hearts to know that we have neighbours like Amazon who will lend a helping hand when it is needed most.”

The donation forms part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme whereby the company supports the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
