Local resident helps firefighters stop a tree from falling onto Milton Keynes bungalow in high winds

A local resident worked together with firefighters to stop a tree from falling onto a bungalow in high winds yesterday (20/5).

The incident took place along Withycomb in Furzton; a fire engine attended the scene shortly after 7:20pm to discover that the 20ft tree was in danger of falling onto the property.

Firefighters worked with a resident, using a general-purpose line (rope) to pull down the tree. Luckily, the work of the team meant that nobody was injured.

This is just one of the incidents that took place yesterday, as the strong winds caused another hazard in Central Milton Keynes.

At around the same time last night, there was a loose window dangling from the fourth floor of a flat, hanging directly over a public footpath.

Two fire engines and their crews attended the apartment block in Merrivale Mews, using a turntable ladder and a toolkit to remove the window

This disruption, and potential for hazards, is expected to continue throughout today (21/5) as high winds are continued to be forecast.

There is currently a weather warning in place for much of the country, and winds of up to 45-50mph are expected.

The Met Office issued the warning at 3pm yesterday, and it will continue until 9pm tonight.

People are being encouraged to take extra care when driving, and also avoid walking in wooded areas. There is a chance that gusts of wind could cause tree branches to fall.
