Local pub in Milton Keynes to launch "Britain's first sail through takeaway"

The Galleon Pub in Old Wolverton is offering a "sail through" takeaway for canal boats and will deliver food/drinks to customers in the car park.

Sail Away with The Galleon has soft-launched today (18/3) following Government advice that people should avoid pubs.

Although the eatery will remain open for the time being, the pub has introduced a temporary takeaway service allowing those with canal boats to moor along the canal, just outside the pub, with their order being handed to them by a member of staff.

Customers visiting who wish to get takeaway can phone up and pay over the phone, and either give their car registration or state the name of their canal boat. Once the order is ready, a member of staff will bring it out. Bottled drinks will also be available, with draft soon expected to be added to the takeaway menu.

Hannah Slade, Landlady of The Galleon, said: "This is a challenging time for everyone regardless of their industry. Some will find it harder than others and we have just got to face it head on and make the best of the situation we are being faced with.

"Sail Away was being prepared in the background, so it seems appropriate to launch it now. We are a community pub and do our upmost to support the locals and bring people together. Nothing is better than a community spirit, particularly during these tough times!"
