Local MP backs MK Hospital's decision to allow Ross Kemp and ITV to film on site

Ben Everitt, MP for Milton Keynes North, has supported Milton Keynes Hospital's decision to allow ITV to film a documentary inside the hospital despite some residents sharing criticism.

On The NHS Frontline, hosted by Ross Kemp, will allow people to see how frontline NHS workers are battling the coronavirus pandemic.

It was filmed at the hospital on Friday (10/4), and since then some people have questioned why he was allowed on site when there are increased restrictions on visitors for ill patients.

Milton Keynes Hospital has defended their decision, with local MP Ben Everitt also believing the hospital has made the right call.

“It’s been a tricky call for Milton Keynes Hospital as to whether they should invite ITV and Ross Kemp in," said Ben. "I can understand why people have thought that’s probably not the right thing to do, specifically people who haven't been able to see their own loved ones and they are upset by that.

"But, on balance, we need to make sure that the message does get out that people need to stay home, save lives and protect the NHS. We know that ITV and Ross Kemp can reach a really important target demographic that needs to hear that message.

"I think Milton Keynes Hospital have probably made the right call there, in my view, and if this documentary does reach those people who weren’t taking social distancing seriously and it does change their minds then Ross and ITV will have helped to ease the pressure on the NHS."

On The NHS Frontline will air this Thursday (16/4) at 8pm on ITV.
