Local man completes two marathons in wheelchair for Willen Hospice

Grant Miller, from Bradwell, Milton Keynes, has decided to take advantage of the once-a-day exercise to do complete Incremental Marathons, in his wheelchair to raise money for Willen Hospice.

Grant, who is a Willen Hospice volunteer, started his challenge at the end of March, and has now completed not one, but two marathons, and is still going! Grant has been going out whatever the weather, from downpours to gusty winds, to glorious sunshine, sharing photos of his progress on his JustGiving Page. He has now raised an amazing £1316 for the charity, just £84 off his £1400 target.

Grant Miller, said, “Willen Hospice means a lot to me as I’ve had four friends, and two acquaintances support by them, and I know the fabulous work that they do. I usually volunteer two days a week, and whenever else I’m needed, like at fundraising events or for bucket collections. With the current pandemic, these face-to-face fundraising efforts have been heavily curtailed, so I wanted to take this opportunity to help.”

Nikki Poole, Community Fundraiser, said, “Grant is a fantastic volunteer, who is always there to help the Fundraising team at Willen Hospice. With our community fundraising efforts on hold until further notice, we are facing a significant loss in income this summer. Fortunately, we have amazing people like Grant who are using their time during the lockdown to continue supporting the Hospice, as our nurses and Hospice staff continue to provide the best level of care possible for our patients, in the face of the pandemic.”

Willen Hospice needs to raise £4.7million every year, that’s £9 a minute, to continue providing its specialist, compassionate care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, and at the end of their lives.

Donations to Grant’s Incremental Wheelchair Marathon can be made here.
