Local councillor encourages sports and social clubs to donate dry snacks to MK Food Bank

Keith McLean, Councillor for Olney Ward, has encouraged local sports and social clubs to donate dry goods nearing their expiry dates to MK Food Bank.

Cllr Keith McLean, who is also a committee member at Emberton Sports and Social Club, will be donating the club's dry stock with a best before date of mid-June.

He said: "I realised that most of our dry goods e.g. crisps, nuts, mini cheddars have best before end dates that are within the 12 week lockdown period so I proposed to the committee that we donate them to Foodbank Plus.

"This has been agreed and I will take the stock to Saxon Court when I go to collect food boxes for delivery."

Cllr McLean is encouraging other clubs in the area to do the same, so that the food does not go to waste.

The MK Food Bank is a city-wide food service providing food donations to vulnerable people that need it the most. MK Council has recently teamed up with The MK Food Bank to launch the Food Bank Xtra, with additional staff and a new, larger distribution centre to ensure it has the right resources to cope with the additional demand expected during the coronavirus outbreak.

Do you have dry goods that are close to their expiry date? You can drop the items off at the MK Council Offices in Saxon Court, Central MK.
