Let the sunshine in! It's the dawning of the age of Aquarius

When the moon is in the Seventh House and Jupiter aligns with Mars then either this is the start of a horoscope or it’s the news that Hair, The Musical, is on its way to Milton Keynes Theatre!

Fifty years ago, what was the safe and cosy world of West End musicals changed forever. As the curtain fell on centuries of theatre censorship, the legendary rock musical burst onto the scene in all its psychedelic glory and liberating rallies against the Vietnam War.

With free love, mind-altering substances and a lot of hair the hippie ‘tribe’ of politically active youngsters living a Bohemian existence in the East Village of New York set out to dodge the draft and change the world through protest and song.

Never before had bisexuality, interracial relationships and nudity been seen, yet alone celebrated, on the London stage before. And half a century later the life-affirming, anti-establishment, energetic spirit of the show still has the power to break through the oppression of negative karma. And there’s an awful lot of that around at the moment.

Hair comes direct from a sell-out London run starring Dancing on Ice winner Jake Quickenden and Hollyoaks’ Kim Butterfield, Daisy Wood-Davis.

Directed by Jonathan O’Boyle, whose production of Rain Man was a recent hit at MKT, Hair is written by Gerome Ragni and James Rado with a Grammy-winning score by Galt MacDermot that includes the numbers I Got Life, Good Morning Starshine and those great powerhouse anthems, Aquarius and Let the Sunshine In.

Hair is on at Milton Keynes Theatre Monday 15th - Saturday 20th July 2019. You can book your tickets here.
