"We have been waiting weeks for proper guidance and supplies of PPE," says Leader of MK Council

Cllr Pete Marland, Leader of MK Council, has today (1/4) said that the council is still awaiting official guidance and supplies of PPE from the Government.

Council staff, after waiting for weeks, have now begun to source their own PPE from a local supplier.

Cllr Marland said: “We have been waiting weeks for proper guidance and supplies of PPE. Our main concern is frontline staff. Seeing the government claim supplies are coming though isn’t the reality.

"We have now sourced equipment for our staff from a local supplier. I’m sure that people are now working very hard to make sure things get to where they need to be, but it is very late into the day. I hope things will improve.”

This is not the first time Cllr Marland has stressed the importance of council staff receiving the correct equipment.

Speaking to MKFM last week, Cllr Marland added: "For every day they [council staff] don’t have it – this crisis lasts 12 or 14 days longer, because the virus is two weeks ahead of us.

"We are sitting here, and all the contacts we make on a daily basis, the incubation period of the virus might not come for another 12 or 14 days, so we are 14 days behind it.

"For every day our staff don’t get that protective equipment, they put themselves at risk, they put other vulnerable people at risk so we need the equipment and we need it from the government now."
