Latest as winds cause disruption in Milton Keynes

    A weather warning has been put across Milton Keynes today (18/2) as strong winds blow over from storm Eunice.

    Earlier today (18/2), many schools across Milton Keynes took advice to close their doors and go to online learning as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for strong winds. Neighbouring towns were affected with Red warnings, leaving Milton Keynes residents just that little bit more wary.

    People across the country have been warned to avoid travelling altogether and to take extra care as winds could hit up to 65mph in some areas of MK.

    Schools are not the only place that have been left closed today. With roads, shops and attractions having to follow foot.

    Newport Pagnell and New Bradwell tips are the latest thing to be closed with MK Council explaining: "Due to the current weather conditions, we’ve taken a decision to close Newport Pagnell and New Bradwell tips for the rest of the day. Our Bleak Hall site remains open, but this might change at short notice.

    "We know this isn’t convenient for our residents. We are sorry, and hope to be reopen as normal tomorrow."

    Many roads have also been blocked with falling trees or debris. The road pictured, in Sherington has had to be closed, Sherington High Street.

    Power lines and electricity have also been affected.

    Little Brickhill near the golf club, has had to unfortunately be closed whilst crews remove it and make the area safe.

    The busy high street in Newport Pagnell has also had to be closed due to falling debris. MK Council said: "We've closed the road between St John Street and Union Street due to falling debris. We'll advise when the road can reopen once it is safe to do so."

    A Severe Weather Emergency Protocol has also been put in place between 18th February until 19th February, allowing anybody without shelter free emergency accommodation.

    Thames Valley Police have reported a high amount of 999 calls during the course of today. They put out the following statement: "We are currently experiencing a high demand on our phone lines.

    "Please only call 999 to report a crime in progress or if there is a threat to life.

    "In order to help prioritise our resources report any non-urgent crimes online."

    The weekend is also set to be very windy and MK Council has advised that people remain safe.
