Knife crime intervention learning zone arrives at Hazard Alley in Milton Keynes

The region’s leading safety education charity Safety Centre launched a Knife Crime Intervention programme by delivering interactive, immersive, and informative sessions directly into primary schools across MK.

Maya Joseph-Hussain, Safety Centre CEO says “early intervention is essential in tackling knife crime across our region. By working in partnership with Thames Valley Police and MK Council we are ensuring young people are empowered with key information enabling them to make considered choices and have increased awareness of the impact of knife crime. The recent tragic incident is sadly a reminder of how essential our work is”.

The initial sessions aimed at school students in Year 5 are funded by Thames Valley Police & MK Together Partnership. The charity is also actively contacting schools across MK to offer the sessions to Year 6 students.

The early intervention for young people is very important and the charity delivers safety messages in a sensitive and engaging way, ensuring that it is age appropriate and engaging. The charity’s vision is to see a society where all children, young people and adults have access to interactive, immersive, and memorable safety education and training, enabling safe and flourishing communities

Established in 1992, the Safety Centre (also known as Hazard Alley) is the world’s first interactive, immersive, and memorable safety education charity, spearheading the need to provide safety education to children, young people, and adults across the region.

The centre provides high quality interactive, immersive, and memorable safety education and training to children, young people and adults, teaching them how to stay safe, understand risks and avoid accidents using realistic learning experiences.

Feedback from teachers at MK Schools where knife crime intervention sessions have been delivered:

‘A clear and friendly approach to a difficult topic. There was a lot of interaction and conversation.’

‘There was 100% engagement. Slides were age appropriate and easy for the class to follow. Resources were easy but effective and all children were able to use them.’
