Keith Emmett & Sons announce cancellation of this year’s Firework Spectacular in Milton Keynes

Keith Emmett & Sons, founder of the Milton Keynes Fireworks, have sadly announced the cancellation of this year’s annual Firework Spectacular due to insufficient funds.

The cherished community event, which has become a staple of Bonfire Night celebrations in Milton Keynes, has sadly been cancelled this year following the inability to secure enough funds.

Keith Emmett III told MKFM, “It is with a heavy heart that we are announce the cancellation of this year’s annual Firework Spectacular. The level of sponsorship required was rapidly approaching and sadly in this current climate, we have been unable to secure that level of funding required.

“While this news obviously comes as a huge disappointment to many, we would like to acknowledge the support from our media partner MKFM and previous sponsors over the last two years.

“The first funfair and fireworks was organised by Keith Emmett SNR and local circus stunt star Tod Cody in 1978 and attracted over 10,000 people.”

The Emmett family has been in the leisure industry for several years, with one of their main focuses being funfair attractions. For many years the Emmett family have proudly hosted Milton Keynes’ largest fireworks display for free.

Keith continued, “This year it would have celebrated its 44th anniversary of free fireworks in Milton Keynes!

“The event attracts 100,000 spectators annually, with any event of this magnitude there’s many things to be considered when planning. One of the largest tasks is the road closures and ensuring the safety of our spectators. We have been very lucky to have the support and sponsorship from Ringway to carry out these past closures. A cancellation date was set at our annual SAG meeting back in July and it was agreed by all involved to have a final cancellation date if vital funds were not raised.”
