Home-schooling parents in Milton Keynes can take advantage of the BBC's free education programmes

The BBC will be broadcasting a range of free educational television programmes for children during lockdown.

The broadcasts will be especially useful for those without computers, as the nation has shifted to online learning due to a big spike in coronavirus cases.

The BBC says this will be the organisation's "biggest education offer in its history".

From Monday onwards, there will be curriculum-based programmes shown on television channels. Three hours of primary school programming will be shown every weekday on CBBC, and there will be at least two hours for secondary pupils studying for GCSEs on BBC Two.

Shows such as Our School, Celebrity Supply Teacher, Horrible Histories, Art Ninja and Operation Ouch will also be shown.

Oliver Dowden, Culture Secretary, said the BBC "has helped the nation through some of the toughest moments of the last century".

"And for the next few weeks it will help our children learn whilst we stay home, protect the NHS and save lives," he added. "This will be a lifeline to parents and I welcome the BBC playing its part."

Bitesize Daily will also air daily on iPlayer and via the red button.
