Fundraisers take on Three Peaks Challenge for Milton Keynes Food Bank

Employees from a local business have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Milton Keynes Food Bank.

Matthew Smith, Jordan Pope, who work for TSYS Managed Services EMEA took on the Three Peaks challenge on 6th May.

The Three Peaks challenge sees hikers take on the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours in a bid to raise funds for MK Food Bank.

"The team at MK Food Bank are super proud of our fundraisers Matt and Jordan this weekend! Climbing one mountain is exhausting and dangerous enough but attempting to do all Three Peaks in 24 hours, in aid of MK Food Bank, is amazing!" A spokesperson for MK Food Bank told MKFM.

They were unable to finish the last peak (Snowdon) due to injuries during a rainstorm at the top of Scarfell Pike, the night-time descent was incredibly difficult, and they both suffered injuries.

MK Food Bank provides emergency food parcels to families and individuals in Milton Keynes, who have hit a short term crisis. Between January and March 2023, the Food Bank saw an increased demand of 49% on the same period last year.

As well as an increase to demand, the Food Bank has also had to deal with the cost of food rising.

Despite seeing over 2,700 Food Parcels going out in MK alone during the month of March, the charity is only receiving around half of what it needs to deliver, leading them to spend over £20k per month to make up the shortfall.
