'Friends Not Food' national vegan campaign arrives in Milton Keynes

The national 'Friends Not Food' vegan campaign has arrived in Milton Keynes today with a large banner on the A5 and the Milton Keynes Vegan Festival at the Fishermead Trinity Centre.

The banner was unveiled to traffic this morning on a bridge over the A5 Northbound, just after the junction with the H3 Monks Way/A422.

It reads 'Fight Climate Change with Diet Change' as well as a link to the GoVegan website.

Similar banners have been unveiled in over 50 cities across the UK today in locations including London, Leeds, Bristol, Liverpool, York, Norwich and Wolverhampton.

Campaigners say they initially made 25 banners with 25 winning cities chosen to display them. However, they were inundated with requests for more banners with more cities coming forward so they doubled the number to hit the 50 UK cities taking part today.

The Milton Keynes branch of Extinction Rebellion have also been in attendance at the Fishermead event and supporting the campaign locally.

In a statement, the national campaign said: “The science is clear: We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. We are in a life or death situation of our own making. We must act now. Our leaders are failing us. Our current system of governance is compromised by a focus on profits, influenced by lobbies of powerful corporations.”
