Willen Hospice lit their gardens for the first time last night (20/9) to kick start the hospice's popular Twilight Lantern Week.
The gardens will be lit up every evening this week from 7-8:30pm, and provide people with a beautiful opportunity to get out and support the hospice in a socially-distanced manner.
Everyone is welcome to view the display from the lakeside for free, but Hospice fundraisers are encouraging people to purchase their own lantern for £10, which will be posted out to them.
This can be decorated, and either kept at home, or placed by the Hospice Gardens fence (lakeside) to be added to the display. The money from the lanterns will help the Hospice to continue caring for local patients and their families.
Tracey Jago, Events Manager at Willen Hospice, said “Our Twilight event is a really special way to remember the lives of our loved ones, whether they were cared for at Willen Hospice or elsewhere. It’s been a very challenging year for those who’ve lost someone. It’s possible that some people weren’t able to go to a funeral, or perhaps had to attend virtually. I hope our event will give people that time to take a moment to reflect and remember.”

Willen Hospice needs to raise £4.7 million every year, that’s £9 a minute, to continue to deliver specialist care to patients in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. It’s been a challenging year for the charity, and they appreciate any support from the local community so they can keep their doors open and provide vital end-of-life care, and assistance and support for those with life-limiting illnesses.
