Fire damages sheds, garages and houses in a Milton Keynes estate

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at Plowman Close in Greenleys yesterday afternoon (24/7).

"It started around 5pm," said an eye witness living nearby. "I was just finishing work when thick smoke started billowing across. My brother then advised that there was a garage on fire and it went off [spread] pretty quickly."

Two appliances and crews from West Ashland, one from Broughton, one from Newport Pagnell and three officers attended the scene. And, just as they arrived, two gas canisters exploded, says the eye-witness, causing flames to shoot up.

Neighbours were told to stay in their houses and close their windows whilst the fire was dealt with.

"It was really quite scary," she added. "The community spirit of people helping the fire fighters, and making sure that the lady who lived in the house and gentleman who owned the attached garage were ok."

Firefighters used two main jets, one hose reel and six sets of breathing apparatus, cooled three gas cylinders, isolated the gas and electricity and fitted smoke alarms in two semi-detached houses.

Two sheds were destroyed by fire, two garages were severely damaged and there was smoke-logging and external heat damage to the two houses.

    Nobody was injured.
