Explore the city on foot at the MK Walking Festival!

Its that time of year again to dust off your walking boots and join The Parks Trust for their annual Walking Festival.

Now in its 11th Year, the 2020 festival has a variety of walks across three-days that are suitable for all ages and abilities.

The MK Walking Festival is taking place from Friday 8th May to Sunday 10th May and has been created to try and encourage as many people as possible to go out walking and discovering greenspaces in Milton Keynes.

This year the festival will feature 20 walks including; two introductory walks from MK Ramblers. The first walk will take you on an 11-mile circular route from Ouse Valley Park to New Bradwell, and back. The second will start at Shenley Wood and circle eight miles along the North Bucks Way to Howe Park Wood, finishing at Shenley Wood.

Back by popular demand is The Parks Trust Woof Walk. This dedicated dog walk on Saturday 9th May, will involve you and your four-legged friend being led on an hour and half walk through the beautiful Teardrop Lakes.

New for the 2020 festival is The Parks Trust 12.5-mile walk. This is half the distance of the mammoth 25-mile walk challenge and is ideal for those who want to tackle a shorter version.

Geocaches MK will also be joining the festival this year with their family friendly puzzle trail. Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. There are hundreds of Geocaches hidden around the world and on this walk you’ll learn how to uncover them.

Julie Dawes, Events & Community Engagement Manager says: ‘It’s fantastic to see such a varied and exciting walks programme for our Walking Festival this year.  From challenging yourself to 25 miles in one day to shorter strolls this walking fiesta goes from strength to strength every year with so many different chances for people to get out and explore.’

The MK Walking Festival is created by The Parks Trust, the independent charity that cares for over 6,000 acres of parkland and greenspace in Milton Keynes and is supported by Milton Keynes Council, MK Health Walks, MK Nordic Walking, Willen Hospice, Geocaches MK and MK Ramblers.

If you can’t make the walking festival, you can still get involved in walking across Milton Keynes by joining walks and walking groups that run throughout the year. Visit www.theparkstrust.com/activities/walking/ to find out more.
