Eight coronavirus cases recorded in Milton Keynes today as infection rate falls below average again

    Eight new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Milton Keynes today as the infection rate has fallen below the national average again.

    This comes as just yesterday Milton Keynes had a higher infection rate, or case rate, than the average area in the country.

    But the 7-day case rate in Milton Keynes has fallen from 25.6 cases per 100,000 people yesterday to 22.6 cases per 100,000 people today.

    This figure is just below the national average of 23.5 cases per 100,000 people.

    When looking at cases, the latest figures bring the total number of people tested positive in Milton Keynes since the start of the pandemic to 20,246 - of which 60 were in the past seven days.

    Nationally, there was an additional 1,979 people tested positive today, with 5 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

    These deaths did not take place in Milton Keynes, meaning the city's total COVID-linked death toll still stands at 463 since the start of the pandemic.

    Meanwhile, 36,704,672 people have now had a first dose of the vaccine and 20,287,403 have been given a second dose across the country.
