Police remind dog walkers of law to keep pets 'under control' whilst walking in Milton Keynes

Police officers have reminded dog owners that it is their responsibility to keep pets 'under control' whist out on walks across the city.

And dog walkers who regularly visit Bury Fields in Newport Pagnell are being reminded to control their pets, especially when horses are nearby.

Officers from Thames Valley Police have warned people on social media that failing to control your pet could be dangerous.

"It is the law to keep your dog under control at all times," they said. "It has been brought to our attention that some owners / dog walkers are not controlling their dog around horses that share the field leading the horses to become scared. This could be dangerous for all animals and people concerned."

Milton Keynes Council has put up signage around the fields making dog walkers aware of these laws. And police are reminding residents that if you are walking a dog, even if it is not yours, you are responsible for the dog's behaviour and have a duty to keep it under control.

Those who spot any particular problems should report the incident to Milton Keynes Council on 01908 691691 and contact 101 to ensure local policing teams are aware.
