Elizabeth Woodville School in Deanshanger has partnered with local police in a bid to deter students from using dangerous items.

Officers from Northamptonshire police were at the secondary school in Deanshanger this morning with a Knife Arch, as part of an initiative to deter students from taking dangerous items to school.

A Knife Arch is a portable metal detector which is used to detect whether someone is carrying a dangerous item or blade.

Some students at the Deanshanger secondary school were searched this morning (26/1) and teachers at the school said all co-operated well.

A spokesperson for Elizabeth Woodville School told parents: "EWS and Northamptonshire Police worked together this morning to use a Knife Arch to check students on their arrival on our south site this morning.

"Some students were searched and all students co-operated well and were a credit to EWS.  This is a joint initiative designed to deter the bringing of illicit or dangerous items onto the school site and to keep all students and staff safe.

"I would like to thank all students for their patience and co-operation this morning and we will be looking to carry out a similar joint operation at some stage in the future."
