Could M&S be at risk in Milton Keynes City Centre under plans to move away from the high street?

High street retailer M&S has said it will be closing stores as it shifts away from town centres, saying many have “lost impetus” as a result of failed local authority or government policy.

According to the BBC, the pandemic has "increased the imperative" for high street retailer M&S to make cuts to its clothing and home trading space, as it saw rises in online sales for these products.

The retailer has confirmed that 32 stores will be closed over the next few years, following the 68 that have already been shut.

Steve Rowe, the outgoing chief executive of the retail giant, told The Guardian that the store was now “moving with the customer” with 40% of Marks & Spencers clothing and home sales being online.

M&S also predict for shoppers to take a seat back towards the end of this year, following the Jubilee and being able to holiday abroad.

Marks and Spencer Group plc, also known as M&S, Marks and Sparks, is a major British retailer which has been on high streets and in town centres for 138 years.

MKFM has contacted M&S for more information.
