Captain Tom Moore has won a special Pride of Britain Award

Carol Vorderman has this morning (23/4) presented Captain Tom Moore with a special Pride of Britain Award for raising millions of pounds for the NHS.

Captain Tom, who lives in Marston Moretaine, has raised nearly £30m for the NHS after walking 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday.

This morning, on Good Morning Britain, he was presented with a special Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Award for his outstanding fundraising efforts.

Carol Vorderman told the WW2 veteran that he had received nearly 70,000 nominations from up and down the country.

And, upon receiving the award, he said he was "totally in awe" and thanked the nation for their support.

A moving video message was also played to Captain Tom, where dozens of celebrities including David Jason, Bear Grylls, Joanna Lumley, Rita Ora and Harry Kane showed their appreciation.

Captain Tom Moore will be presented the special award at the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards when it is safe to do so.
