Brand new outdoor exercise equipment opens at Milton Keynes lake

A collection of new outdoor workout equipment, known as a 'trim trail', has opened at Lodge Lake in Milton Keynes.

Outdoor workouts have proved popular over the past year, especially as gyms were closed during the national lockdowns.

And a study published in the International Journal of Environmental Health Research found that exercising in nature can have extra benefits for people's moods, including soothing stress and boosting self-esteem.

There are several outdoor gyms, and trim trails, across Milton Keynes. There is gym equipment, including pull up bars, at Willen Lake, alongside already-existing trim trails at Caldecotte Lake South and Emerson Valley.

Trim trails resemble children's parks, minus the swings and the slides, but they are actually designed for adults.

They provide free outdoor fitness that anyone can use anytime, and focus on strength and balance exercises.

The Parks Trust, which owns a variety of parks and green spaces across the city, has today (27/7) said that a brand new trim trail has opened at Lodge Lake. It has pull up bars, a climbing a-frame, balance beams, a rolling log, a wobble beam and a ladder climb.

"The Rolling Log and the Wobble Beam stations feature equipment that moves when used," The Parks Trust explains.

"This provides a great way to challenge your balance and core strength, but please be aware of this movement before using the equipment."

This trim trail was funded in part by Loughton and Great Holm Parish Council and is owned and maintained by The Parks Trust.
