Binmen will take away real Christmas trees as part of wheelie bin collection in Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes Council has said that its waste contractors will take away real Christmas trees, saving people a trip to the tip.

The trees can be placed (without decorations) into the green bin. If it is too big, it can either be sawn into pieces or leant up against the wheelie bin for collection.

Refuse collections are running on a revised timetable this week, meaning that your wheelie bin and sacks will be collected on a different day.

Some people have reported experiencing delays, and the council put this down to "unprecedented" levels of festive waste - which is up a third this year.

Waste collection crews have collected more than 1,400 tonnes of refuse in the past week alone.
