Barclays Olney branch will not re-open following JCB ram-raid

The Barclays Bank in Olney which was subjected to a ram-raid by a JCB digger last year will not be re-opening.

The bank has written to customers informing them that fewer customers were using the branch prior to the incident and customers can use the Central Milton Keynes Branch instead.

The decision means that Olney will be left with no banks, and only the Nationwide building society will remain in the town.

Specialist contractors had been working at the site as asbestos was found in the building.

Last year, thieves used a digger to destroy the front of the bank, which remains sealed off and is currently being guarded by two security personnel 24 hours a day.

Police have said that investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to report it to police online or by calling 101 and quoting the reference ‘43180231409’.

MKFM obtained the video on this page the day after the raid, which shows the criminals using the JCB to obtain the cash machine in the bank.

Officers were called at around 3:05am on Sunday 29th July following reports a JCB had been used to force entry into Barclays Bank.

They arrived on the scene ten minutes later.
